Renewable energy for a country estate

Lantern was commissioned to assess the potential for on-site electricity and heat generation for a rural estate in the South West.

We worked closely with the owner to assess current energy consumption and plans for major refurbishment works across the site, in order to understand the likely future energy demand. We then made recommendations for reducing electricity and heating consumption and assessed potential electricity and heat technologies based on the site and owner requirements.

In the end we specified a biomass district heating system to supply heating and hot water to the estate buildings and a wind turbine to supply a substantial amount of the site’s electricity demand.

The installations will be eligible for the Renewable Heat Incentive (RHI) and the Feed-in-tariff for electricity, generating income for the owner and ensuring the sustainability of this estate for both present and future generations.
